No, you do not need to have a private health fund for your outpatient visits. With Medicare, you can reimburse over 1/3 of the initial consultation fee. However, if you have private health insurance, your policy will usually cover the cost of inpatient procedures or surgery fees at private hospitals in case you need any.
Initial consultations are charged at $350 (of which $81.30 are being rebated by Medicare), regardless of the length of consultation. Subsequent consultations are charged at $200 ($40.85 rebated by Medicare). If you have had a surgery in one of the private hospitals, a complimentary post-surgery visit will be offered at no additional cost. (bulk billed)
There may be additional reimbursable charges if additional services are required such as biopsies, insertion or removal of an IUD, colposcopy for cervical screening test abnormalities, or minor surgical procedures.
We believe all women should have access to the optimal health care. Regardless of your background and status with health insurance, you can receive the recommended surgical treatment via one of the following pathways:
1. Most of our patients prefer to have surgery in a private hospital. All surgery carried out in private hospitals carry a gap payment. The surgical fees are based on the procedures and the complexity of a patient's case. Every surgery is tailored according to the specific conditions of each individual woman. You will receive a full estimate of fees prior to your surgery.
Dr. Choi currently works at two state-of-the-art private hospitals in New South Wales - Sydney Adventist and Hospital, St. George Private Hospital
In addition to the hospital fees, you should plan on being billed by both the anaesthetist and pathologist. These charges are usually partially covered by the private health fund.
2. For patients entitled for Medicare benefits and choose to have surgery in a public hospital, there will be no surgical costs. You will be under the direct care of Dr. Choi and may also be taken care of by the Registrars in the public hospitals. However, the waiting time is usually longer (currently 6-12 months) than the private hospitals.
No matter which pathway you elect, Dr. Choi will make sure you are under the best care and receive the highest quality of surgical treatment.
For those who have financial concerns, we will work out with you the most suitable pathway according to your wishes and needs.
Apart from a GP referral letter, please bring all your medical records, imaging reports and details of long-term medications with you. It is at your best interest when our team has a thorough understanding about your past medical history.
